Apparently,
when kept as a talisman a horseshoe is said to bring good luck. There are those who believe that to hang it with the ends pointing upwards will bring good luck as it acts as a storage container of sorts for any good luck that happens to be ‘floating by,’ whereas to hang it with the ends pointing down, is bad luck as all the good luck will fall out. There are those who believe that the shoe should be hung the other way as it will then release its luck to the people around it. This is clearly wrong.
As a child, growing up by the seaside, we had a horeshoe nailed to the door of the outside toilet. I don’t recall being particularly lucky, in fact, my dog Mowser got run over by a car..
